Salary: £30,000 - £36,000 doe + car and benefits
Home Based – Leeds, Newcastle, Scottish Borders
Essential
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the building/insulation/ fenestration or highways industry
Building/construction or relevant technical/professional qualifications
Construction and/or highways industry experience with particular reference to products, their installation and maintenance.
Management Standards such as ISO 9001/14001 as applicable to a manufacturing company
Manufacturing Techniques and Processes
A good understanding of building and/or highways products installation techniques.
Auditing Techniques for management systems, office records systems and installation processes
Excellent Communication skills
Ideally
Extensive knowledge of building and/or highways techniques, installation of building products, building and other relevant regulations and their application on site.
Auditing skills associated with the assessment of management systems
Quality Management and Factory Production Control Systems
Hands-on construction and/or highways site experience/practices
Testing skills associated to Texture Depth and Skid Resistance Value tests
Product auditing techniques
Presentation skills
Inspection or supervisory roles in the construction and/or highways industry
An ONC/D in construction (or equivalent NVQ) or HNC/D.
Qualified Lead Assessor
Experience of dealing with manufacturers, local authorities and other bodies
Membership of a relevant technical/professional body
Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the Technical Assessor is to undertake and complete Management System Assessments, Building and Glazing Inspections within authorised areas of specialism.
This will include quality, environment and site specific inspections and assessments ensuring compliance with pre-identified scheme requirements.
This is a multi-skilled role where the job holder will be expected to deliver the required levels of productivity whilst maintaining the quality of inspections and assessments carried out and reporting accordingly.
Inspection/Reporting Duties
Undertake site surveillance inspections of current approved installers
Complete concise, pre-formatted technical reports on installations and works inspected and detail areas of non-compliance
Complete site investigation reports on defective installations and report findings accurately
Assess factory production control associated with products and/or systems under assessment or certification
Assess existing site installations or installations in progress in order to assess the durability and/or practicability of products under assessment or certified by the business
Assess management systems against the requirements of ISO 9001 and other documented standards such as ISO 14001 and make decisions on compliance or otherwise
Review on-going, the effectiveness of management systems associated with the production of certified products
Carry out executive functions related to management system certification and product certification as defined in the relevant management system procedures and as required by the rules of accreditation
Provide clear and concise reports on all the above when required, using the appropriate media
Apply good working knowledge of building practices
Planning/Liaison Duties
Provide guidance to installing companies to help them meet the requirements of the scheme under which they are operating
Attend site meetings and liaise with other bodies, local authorities, manufacturers etc. to agree, recommend remedial works
Liaise closely with clients, installers and colleagues to ensure effective execution and communication of work to be carried out
Provide guidance to installers, builders and householders on relevant Building Regulations and requirements with which they have to comply
Manage diary and travel arrangements ensuring best use of own time and to maximise revenue earning activities
Coaching/Mentoring/Technical Advice Duties
Supervise induction/coaching/knowledge transfer to new and inexperienced assessors
Coach assessors under training and if required recommend further training and development
Help mentor less experienced assessors as and when required
Provide technical and contractual advice and expertise when required
Other Duties
Deliver the required productivity levels whilst maintaining a professional and courteous service
Provide information and advice on the range of services provided by the business
Proactively identify opportunities and sales leads ensuring details are passed to relevant staff
Keep up to date with all relevant legislation, regulations and technical documentation that apply to the work
Maintain professional competence by attending training courses and updating skills as and when required
Attend relevant meetings when required
Cover the duties / responsibilities of team members when required regionally, nationally and internationally
