Salary: up to £60,000 pro rata
As an Integration Architect, your focus will be to provide design oversight, guidance and support to the development teams in building integration solutions that achieve the organisation’s aim of delivering a joined-up Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.
You will work with other Software Architects and members of the solution management team to establish and implement the technical vision for integration, which you will actively communicate to the development teams. In doing so, you will ensure that they clearly understand the overall integration strategy for our clients’ products, such as the use of microservice APIs, re-usable integration components and cloud-based technologies.
You will also take the lead on initiatives that help to improve the software development cycle with particular emphasis on the consistency, quality, reliability, efficiency and maintainability of integrations between products and components.
Whilst it is accepted that the individual education and experience profile for Integration Architect will vary, the following is provided as a guideline:
Education:
· BSC or equivalent in a software engineering discipline
· Professional qualifications appropriate to software engineering roles
Experience:
· Significant development experience with excellent software engineering skills and specialist knowledge in HL7 and of integration between hospital IT systems, covering HL7, FHIR, RESTful microservices and integration technologies and patterns
· Excellent communication skills with an ability to convey complex ideas to technical and non-technical people, enabling positive collaboration with functions outside development
· High level of experience of formal software development and testing methodologies
· Good understanding of principles, theories, practices and techniques for leading activities involved in planning and delivering software integration projects
· Strong reasoning with a mature and balanced approach to problem solving, with a good understanding of the differences between perfect and workable
Responsibilities:
· Conduct design reviews, gap analysis and assessment of integrations between products and third-party systems, where required
· Work with the development teams to reduce the reliance on HL7 and file-based communication methods for inter-alliance integration
· Provide hands-on guidance and feedback to multiple teams, ensuring that integrations are designed, developed and tested according to good software engineering principles
· Collaborate with product owners and scrum masters to define integration solutions, while identifying dependencies and assessing the associated technical risks
· Translating the organisation’s strategic vision, and the expectations around effective integration into an enterprise integration architecture
· Work with the solution management team to produce high-level estimates of development effort for future integration solutions, later refining these estimates as additional detail becomes available
· Influence colleagues in product and solution management on areas of potential improvement to the integration between systems and workflows
· Producing documented frameworks and architectures that describe and are used to manage the implementation of integration solutions
· Actively share thoughts and views on integration and technology in general, with an open attitude to information sharing
· Help drive continuous improvements to the product codebase including the recovery of technical debt and the introduction of best practices, where applicable
· Ensure the developments team consistently follow departmental guidelines relating to integration. Where no formal guidelines exist, work with peers to formulate and enforce such guidelines
· Review and advise, from an architectural perspective, feasibility, viability and consistency of our integration solutions
· Keep abreast of technology trends and how they could be applied to the company product portfolio. Put forward suggestions for improvement to development processes or tools, where applicable
· Work with the development teams to enhance the scalability and performance of the system, while delivering customer requirements quickly, reliably and efficiently
· Lead on technical initiatives that improve the quality and performance of integration solutions and their delivery to internal and external customers
· Any other activities in support of the business which can reasonably be expected to fall within the capabilities of the employee
