Product Subject Matter Experts (SME) provide specialised knowledge to the agile development teams, helping them drive the successful delivery of the functionality that forms part of our clients market-leading Integrated Electronic Patient Record.

 

As a Product SME, you will work as part of an agile team where your key responsibilities will be to use your product and domain knowledge to;

·         Contribute towards product design, writing user stories and defining end-user workflows

·         Identify safety risks early in the development lifecycle

·         Participate in end-to-end testing activities of features across modules

·         Provide expert support and guidance to internal teams, customers and end-users

·         Understand and manage configuration of software features for web and mobile applications

·         Create end-user documentation and training materials

 

The product is large and they are a widely distributed team. You will need to excel at communicating your ideas to audiences large and small in whatever format you have available. They all collaborate and help each other out, even when things are not going their way.

 

Education, Experience and Skills:

 

Whilst it is accepted that the individual education and experience profile for a Product SME will vary, the following is provided as a guideline:

 

·         Ideally you will have hands on experience of using clinical software, covering one of the following;

o Software release testing and configuration

o Involved in user training

o Preparation of user documentation and standard operating procedures

o Requirements capture

 

Desirable

 

·         Clinical qualifications with professional experience in an acute hospital setting

·         System analysis and design

·         Comfortable talking about APIs and other technical concepts

·         Review and amendment of bid responses or customer requirements documentation.

·         Identifying functional gaps and assessing relative priorities.

·         NHS and wider Healthcare market awareness

·         ISTQB or ISEB Foundation in Software Testing

 

The post-holder must have the following skills:

 

·         Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills

·         Strong organisational skills

·         Working knowledge of MS Office Products

·         Positive attitude

·         Negotiating skills

·         Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

·         Ability to exhibit patience and understanding

·

Primary Responsibilities:

 

·         Identify where the product needs to improve and articulate the changes required.

·         Ensure compatibility and interoperability of Alliance applications.

·         Create workflow models, requirement specifications, and diagrams.

·         Identify and establish scope and parameters in order to define outcome criteria and measures.

·         Collaboration with members of your Agile team to ensure software delivered by each sprint and each integration test meets both functional and non-functional requirements.

·         Working with QA Analysts, create and execute test scripts, recording the outcome of tests, reporting defects and identifying opportunities for product improvement.

·         In collaboration with the QA Analysts, definition and execution of increasingly complex workflow and scenario testing.

·         Execution of ad-hoc testing as required to meet the test plan

·         Creation and maintenance of suitable test environments for all software testing to take place. This includes the set-up of the software being tested and populating or configuring test data. This may extend to testing of interaction with devices e.g. printers, bar coding, dictation devices, medical devices. Testing of interfaces and integration with other modules, products or interface test harnesses

·         Perform static testing and impact assessment of Design and Change Request documentation.

·         Collaboration with members of your Agile team to ensure all user stories have sufficient acceptance criteria defined, from which test cases will be derived.

·         Timely and accurate reporting of assigned work status as required by your team and/or manager, reporting risks and issues as they arise.

·         Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new software, and enhancements to existing software.

·         Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential problem areas.

·         Support external customers with guidance and troubleshooting. (3rd line Customer Support)

·         Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified or new software.

·         Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified or new software.

·         Any other activities in support of the business which can reasonably be expected to fall within the capabilities of the employee.
